Ghostbusters II

Ghostbusters II ★★★★★

Last movie of 2015. Sat down to play this in the background while my wife and I ate chocolate-covered almonds, drank Basil Hayden's and played Monopoly...completely forgot that it ends on New Year's Eve. It's a perfect movie to play in the background as we've internalized just about everything about it and love it to no end; I love it perhaps even more than the first. There are so many lines that feel casually snuck in, so many little moments with this incredible cast that I love and wish could all be together again. Hard to pick a favorite cast member but I'd have to say Peter MacNicol absolutely steals the show for me every time. His first line to an artist restoring a painting: "Everything you are doing is bad. I want you to know this." Gosh. This is what comedic writing looks like.

People have hated it, been cold to it, and/or derided it for years but as people gear up for the 2016 Feig/Wiig reboot by revisiting the originals, hopefully this one emerges as being better than everyone remembered and we witness a critical shift. Or maybe my wife and I will be the only ones cackling on the floor while we watch this over drinks and Monopoly. Fine, whatever. We're good for it. But I'm going ahead and preemptively bumping this all the way up to 5 stars. Viva la Vigo.
