Fine enough, a touch long and was needing a bit more energy and flash. The acting is decent, Gaga sure feels like she is doing something here but I'm not sure it gets all the way there. Pacino walks away as the MVP. Jared Leto was having so much fun that everytime his character was on screen, the movie's entertainment value doubled. Worth a watch on streaming but an Oscar darling this is not.

    Ghostbusters: Afterlife

A warm nostalgia bath that hits a lot of the right notes and delivers tons of heart. The new cast is great (the report between Grace and Rudd is perfect) and the movie is fun until the third act shifts into uninspired remake mode. A lot of threads aren't spun into anything significant and the lack of creativity in recycling exact plot beats/design elements starts to overwhelm a bit. The thrill of seeing old favourites and the sweet emotional beats near the end ultimately carry the film over those creative hurdles but a lot of potential was left untapped.

SHADOW IN THE CLOUD starts strong - cool concept, awesome Carpenter-esque synth score and a gnarly creature. Nearly collapses with eye rolling exposition and paper thin characters but then switches into ridiculous fun overdrive for the finish. Chloe kicks ass #TIFF20 #midnightmadness

    One Night in Miami...

ONE NIGHT IN MIAMI is tremendous. The leads are ALL terrific, the script is excellent and Regina King is just as skilled behind the camera as she is in front of it. Powerful, thought provoking and timely. Leslie Odom Jr. as Sam Cooke is a standout.
