Cher / Michael’s review published on Letterboxd:
You were afraid you'd be the devil's red wife
But it's all right, God dug your dance
And would have you young and in his harem
Dress you the way he wants cause he never had a doll
'Cause everybody made him a boy
And God didn't think to ask his preference
I'll sit up with you big Joan
I'm too fat to go out in the daytime
I'll stay up all night
If you promise not to talk about your hands bein' too small
Hoy, hoy, is she a boy?
Really just amazing set piece after set piece dealing with psychological content that constantly keeps building and leads to one of the most impassioned endings I've seen in a horror film. Such a refresher, everything is explored with sensitivity and humanity. By the time everything ends you feel a massive weight has been lifted off your shoulders. Don't even get me started on the dynamic camera work which is absolutely phenomenal, pairs perfectly well with the plot and larger than life performances. James Wan decided to make me a film so I could cope with a recent experience and it fucking worked. More unhibited genre films please (with a based allegory mind you), this year fucking owns for movies like please keep it coming.
