  • Triangle of Sadness

    Triangle of Sadness

Most entertaining movie from 2022? Was most impressed by the insane filmmaking quality and the timing of the dialogue, gags, everything.

The immediate ending was sloppy enough to leave kind of a bad taste in my mouth, but given the ridiculousness of the entire thing maybe I should’ve have expected it to stick the landing.

Still, will be openly rec’ing this as a fun turn off your brain type watch.

  • The Long Goodbye

    The Long Goodbye

Celebrated the 50th anniversary of this film with an Elliott Gould Q&A and a screening after at the Castro theater. Two years ago I watched this movie for the first time and came away thinking Gould's Marlowe was potentially my favorite performance and character of all time. Well ... his performance in the Q&A may have rivaled his in the film ... I can't put into words how incredible it was. The event cemented this as an all-time special movie for me, even if it's not one of my favorites.

  • Infinity Pool

    Infinity Pool

The set up, initial premise, and pacing of this had me in a good place for quite awhile. it did wear on me though -- it needed an extra element to explore... something? but IDK this movie looks, feels, and sounds great, and goth and skarsgard are too good for me to really complain. i had a nice time in the movie theater

  • Decision to Leave

    Decision to Leave

Oof struggled finding my footing besides the last half hour and was always far from being emotionally invested. Frustrated I had to read the subtitles so quickly because all of the shots are just insane and they’re rifled through rapid fire. Very stimulating movie, dense with just pure information presented in such off-kilter fashion, I just fell behind too quickly to care about it as it ended. No doubt this is technically masterly constructed but I just don’t see a world where it totally resonates with me. That being said I will have to rewatch at some point a little more prepared
