    Infinity Pool 2023

    Ben Shane

★★★★½ Rewatched by Ben Shane 30 Jan 2023

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

    breastfeeding moment is goddamn iconic.

this movie has one of my favourite filmmaker self-insert protagonists in a while. i suspect cronenberg wrote this script before possessor given the parallels between skarsgard’s character’s first novel not being a hit causing a 6 year writer’s block. that specific detail to his character and the way that his girlfriend’s father is in the same industry as him and openly discusses her daddy issues… i read it all man. love that this dialogue isn’t force fed to the audience, but rather carefully given to us at appropriate moments to expand our knowledge of his character.

    Odd ball alert! Haha!
Idk if I got to say much really.

But like I thought this was so hilarious and fascinating at the same time. obviously bale was unbelievable but so was everyone. Even if he wasn’t psycho the whole scene of wallstreet was so crazy. Maybe there’s a reason he seems to just fit in so well

Sorry, can’t comment enough on the delicacy I think was used for this. Everything felt so exact

i do think visiting a brand new beautiful indie theater for the first time to see this definitely loaned a bit to my enjoyment, but this was quite lovely. quietly moving and constantly pretty, absolutely loved the cinematography on display. bill nighy <3

Can’t believe I was so medium on this at first. Friendship is a beautiful thing and this movie captures it perfectly.

I was raving to Sam about the movie because he pmo, but one thing is that it was just so so depressing in so many ways. It was so blunt in it’s depiction of death and violence, showing so many deaths that you rarely see in other films, as well as an unflinching narrative where anyone can die at any second. Despite that, it was so so beautifully made, and everyone should go watch it. I also think we don’t need anymore war movies for a long time

Frustrating that there’s a really good movie in here about the artistic struggle but baby Cronenberg opts instead for a class commentary that doesn’t contribute anything remotely insightful to the conversation.

✍🏻weird handjob scenes are very in right now✍🏻

fuck! yes! trims all the fat from possessor’s script and makes up for it with somehow even more fucked up body horror imagery and ideology.

when mia goth says "im such a good actress", we ALL felt that. god bless her agent.

Every once in a while you find something that’s just different. Something that’s unique that you can just feel how special it is. This is a feeling of the bones and the heart. This movie is so beautiful. I say that a lot I know but I really mean it here. The animation is so creative and the story is sort of horrifically yet fantastically human. Please watch this I know you have an hour and five bucks.
