This Place Rules 2022
I’m very biased since I’m a big fan of Andrew’s and channel 5, but I thought this was fascinating. Incredibly funny while being completely honest and tragic. A genuinely unflinching view of America and the consistent political division happening currently. Highly recommend this one.

White Noise 2022
This is a movie I appreciated more than I liked. Usually I enjoy movies that stylistically throw you to the wolves and either you click with it or you don’t, and here I wish I liked it more than I did. Highlights for me were Crawley’s cinematography, Elfman’s score, and the ending. Everything in between however, I thought was mediocre. Here’s hoping Baumbach improves himself with his next movie.

Black Swan 2010
This could go up for me but idk. Portman is obviously fantastic and Aronofsky does a really good job increasing the paranoia and delusion in every scene. But holy fuck I thought it was really corny at times, some of the choices here just really did not work for me (like holy fuck the talking paintings were comical). Overall this was solid, I just wish I liked it more. Also Perfect Blue solos this in practically every regard.

Training Day 2001
Another movie that surpassed my expectations. Washington and Hawke are both phenomenal and Fuqua does a good job nd having slick direction while still retaining grit.

Good Will Hunting 1997
Watched this because I heard good things and it completely surpassed my expectations. Robin Williams is phenomenal and gives one of the most honest and moving performances I’ve seen in a while. Matt Damon is also really good, but him and Affleck’s script is the other highlight, feeling grounded and realistic, but never lacking clarity or feeling muddled. Great movie.

Babylon 2022
I don't think I've seen a movie equally love and hate the subject it's covering more than this. Everyone in the ensemble delivers career best performances, elevating already solid material. Not to mention Hurwitz going apeshit with his score and Sangren creating such vivid imagery of this era of Hollywood. Definitely get the mixed reception, but this is one of my favorites of the year.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery 2022
Flowed a lot better for me this time around. First still better tho, but still a lot of fun. Way worse things on Netflix let alone originals.

Decision to Leave 2022
One of my favorites this year fs. Park creates something so stylistically different from his other movies and it totally worked for me. Easily some of the best performances this year from Park and Tan with stellar cinematography as well. Really wish I saw this in theaters.
