I've long been interested in why I am so infatuated with a very certain brand of often middle-aged women (especially the campy and the tragic) and why that infatuation seems to be so strongly associated with and tied up within my sexual orientation. There are some easy answers: they're just fun, they get the best songs (when in a musical), they have a tendency (think the Ethel Mermans of the world) to perform their gender in a way that echoes both the way (some) gay men learn to perform their gender and drag.
