    The genius of this movie is in its sheer lack of perspective. You could probably argue in turns that it’s pro-cop or anti-cop, but honestly, I would posit that it’s simply ambivalent, and that’s what makes it so compelling. You’re not really cheering for anyone, you’re not really rooting against anyone, you’re just sort of sitting back in horror at the dark honesty of human excrescence and cynicism.

    If you’re willing to accept the fact that this movie is not all interested in Crawford’s internality or answering even the simplest questions of character, emotion, or motivation—and also willing to ignore the last hour of the film, which is just dreary—this is oddly compelling and occasionally delightful. Dunaway is by turns amazing and dreadful, but impossible to turn away from.

    Justice for Carol Ann, an absolute queen.
