Pig

Pig ★★★½

A film as breathtakingly simple as it is heartbreaking in what it represents.

Loss, grief, love and regret are such universal concepts to understand, and when an actor as fine as Nic Cage (often harshly labelled as an oddball despite his years of experience proving he's one of the greats) channels those heavy human tolls it's a pleasure to watch the man work.

This could have gone down the thriller route and been yet another tale of violent revenge, the fact it's anything but and sets its stall out as something much more intelligent and meaningful is to be, at least I think, respected.
