I’ve given it a few days to sink in, and I believe this is my favorite Kurosawa film I’ve seen so far. Every dream sequence was so imaginative and thought provoking and none of them have left my mind. And if I had to pick one, I would say “The Village of the Watermills” was the one that had the biggest impact on me. I’m delighted it was chosen to close out the movie.

I’m sorry Georgie, I just didn’t think it’d work out between us.

    ★★★★½

I had to get a good Knives Out rewatch in during this time of the year. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, this is my definitive Thanksgiving movie. There aren’t that many classic and obvious themes that writers draw on when trying to capture that universal feeling that Thanksgiving has for so many of us but hating your family, feeling entitled and not being grateful for literally anything is a good start :).

    Happy holidays everybody/10

In hindsight, I blame 7 year old me being enamored with Zooey Deschanel for all the mistakes I’ve made in my life. This is where it all started. This is where it all went downhill.

Call me crazy, but I’ve always been a bigger fan of the latter half of Tarantino’s filmography. Which are Inglorious Bastards, Django Unchained, The Hateful Eight and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. It seems like with these 4 he’s simply having more fun. The violence is so absurd. The pacing feels so relaxed. The characters are always fascinating. The dialogue is extremely funny. The characters all say stuff that kills me. The performances are always top notch and in…

    “France…Army…Josephine.”

I loved this. I’m so happy that the infamous, complex, odd, larger-than-life egomaniac that was Napoleon is now portrayed by the most brilliantly awkward and off-putting actor of his generation - Joaquin Phoenix. What a fantastic casting choice that allowed not only this character, but also this entire film to go in a direction that is so obviously different than other historical European biopics not named Amadeus. Nothing about this felt boring or pompous or up its own ass.…
