Shame

Shame ★★★★½

"I find you disgusting."

Now this is more like it. Where Hunger's repellent content eventually became a little off-putting (for my tastes, anyway), Steve McQueen's second directorial effort neatly offsets its explicit subject matter through the inclusion of a more cohesive and engaging narrative. Featuring some impeccable editing and cinematography, and anchored by another magnificent central turn by Michael Fassbender, Shame is an enrapturing examination of self-destructive desires in the modern world. I haven't been this transfixed by a movie about sexuality since The Handmaiden blew my head off last month.
