    ★★½

Simple popcorn film, nothing too special; delivers exactly what it promises while adding just enough useless threads to stretch the runtime. CGI is fantastic and the actual fight is quite entertaining but like always the humans are focused on far too much. The power levels are inconsistent, which irritated me; they make the rules very clear early on yet don’t follow them! Maybe it’s genuinely good, maybe it’s my blind nostalgia, maybe it’s maybelline! The perfect Halloween watch, has an intoxicating atmosphere filled with death yet is oddly romantic. Every part of this perfectly matches the other and creates this place you just want to jump in to! The humor is truly funny with many jokes that I missed at first and the jazzy singing skeletons should release an album! I vividly remember having a crush on both Victor and Emily, so I thank the film for that realization.

Can a heart still break once it’s stopped beating?

This is a devastating and stirring film, catapulted by one of the best performances I’ve ever seen and undoubtedly the best performance of the year by Sir Anthony Hopkins as well as a fantastically raw supporting turn by Olivia Colman. The writing is pragmatically sharp, cutting straight to the point and saying so much in so few words; genius screenplay. Every aspect of the film is precisely measured to perfectly heighten the blows of the story; it properly breaks your very…

Real slow-burner that relies on genuinely unsettling environment and characters with not a single jump scare, grounded by fantastic performances. Ellen Burstyn is particularly great though not given too much to do. Obviously a bit outdated in terms of FX but still holds up with a ton of charm. My one gripe would be that the final act is a bit rushed with the actual “exorcism” of the demon(s) being done in a minute or two, i was taken aback by…
