Matt Crosby’s review published on Letterboxd:
There seems to be a decent amount of material out there on this film being overrated and I do get that. The suspense is lacking, and it’s mostly known for a car chase sequence, which I generally don’t care about. For me, Steve McQueen is endlessly watchable - even with envy over his clothes and the way they fit, but there is noticeably little charisma in his performance. Above all, a crime movie set in late 60s San Francisco with McQueen as some hot shot detective is enough for me, and while I prefer The Friends of Eddie Coyle this is still amongst Peter Yates best work.
