An old fashioned chiller about a man, grieving the loss of his wife and daughter, who moves into a haunted house. It's pretty slow in parts but it builds up atmosphere and lets it all go, such as the seance scene which slowly amps up.

Some of the acting is a bit hokey here and there, but George C. Scott is brilliant in the lead role of a jaded old man. He looks a lot older than his actual age…

I don't understand why no one wanted to do anything about Bree. She was clearly unhinged from the start, yet the neighbours said "this woman has been through enough" and bail her out of jail. A tense atmosphere, some beautiful French scenery coupled with a delicious mystery, so why didn't I like it as much as I should have?

I watched the whole film and didn't miss any of it, but I was still confused, it felt like any one of them could have been the killer and I still didn't know which one it was.

The whole half French/half English thing didn't sit well with me either, particularly as it didn't seem to be…
