The Irishman 2019
I am nothing if not patient! I was gutted when this wasn't shown here on its limited cinema release, and thought I was buggered as I don't do netflix. Then was super happy to see it was coming out on dvd. I have a large collection but I will sit and wait and wait and wait if I don't think it's a reasonable price. This took a lot longer than usual. I have my ways, shut up :P You streaming…

How, When, and with Whom 1969
A. Pietrangeli #12 | V. Zurlini #2 --- The final film of the director (Antonio Pietrangeli tragically died during the making of this) is quite the change of pace. Like his contribution to the anthology le fate, Come, quando, perché it deals with the rich and noble instead of the working or middle class. It's a story about adultery and the sexual awaking of a woman. Yet, the film opens and comes back to the husband's childhood memories. These flashbacks…

Water Power 1976
The day has finally come - after screaming @ LB on twitter for years, I can finally log my silly pornos.
Well, not all of them, but the fact that I can log THIS one is a big enough win for me. Jamie Gillis, the scuzziest, dirtiest, deranged weirdo in New York, prowls the streets for "whores to cleanse" - loosely based on a true story!!
I cannot adequately explain my love for this abomination without sounding like a crazy person (not that I have any delusions that y'all think I'm normal). Pure filth cinema. Gillis is my skeezy overlord.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 2023
This has at least 37% more talking animal content than the average MCU picture, therefore it's one of the good ones.

Fast X 2023
If the thought had previously crossed your mind that these movies are not exactly sticklers for logic and coherence, let me tell you, you are in for a wild ride with Fast X. The movie was heavily rewritten after production had already begun and it fucking shows. This thing is rough. It feels like it was edited on a chopping block, not under a microscope.
La familia is torn apart early on and the film keeps jumping back and forth…

The Birds 1963
In the beginning, Hitchcock creates the chance encounter at the pet shop in San Francisco between Melanie Daniels and Mitch Brenner which segues into Melanie going to Bodega Bay to surprise Mitch's young sister with two love birds (and to surprise him, too which was what she really intended). There she meets the mysterious Annie Hayworth, who is in love with Mitch and lived in San Francisco herself, and now she senses Melanie's also in love with him. Mitch (Rod…

The Shawshank Redemption 1994
The Shawshank Redemption never gets old, no matter how often I watch it. It's a classic in the truest sense of the word. The Andy-standing-in-the-rain-arms-raised-to-the-sky scene at the end is iconic.
I had a fabulous time watching this with Michelle.

Paprika 1991
Paprika is an erotic odyssey and a history lesson all rolled into one! Tinto Brass' loveletter to a bygone era, here a time when brothels were legal in Italy. Mimma is a young country girl who takes a "temporary" job as a prostitute to make some money for her boyfriend. After taking on the moniker Paprika, she finds she is good at the work. The film is the kind of artful pornography that Tinto does so well. It is very…

Love and a .45 1994
Whoa, this movie is fucking deranged! Every single character is high on drugs and freaking out in some way. Gil Bellows, Rory Cochran, Renée Zellweger, Jeffrey Combs, Michael Bowen and Peter Fonda are all absolutely certifiable. I really don't care that this is "Tarantino-lite" or a True Romance-wannabe, because it's a ridiculous amount of fun!
I had the best time watching this with Michelle.

A Reason to Live, a Reason to Die 1972
"Sie verkaufen den Tod" lässt sein dreckiges Dutzend, darunter Bud Spencer, eine Bergfestung der Südstaaten stürmen. Damit die frisch vom Galgen Geretteten ihre Chance auf Freiheit auch nutzen, erfindet ihr Kommandant eine Geschichte von einem Goldschatz im Fort. Der Film mixt Kriegsfilm, Spionagefilm und Western und überzeugt mit Suspense und aufwendiger Action.

Man From Nowhere 1966
