Markus Kosmo’s review published on Letterboxd:
I watched "Blade Runner" (Final Cut) for the first time today, in English class, and I loved it! I don't really know what to say about it, as it's a lot to process, but I want to rewatch it sometime.
This movie has a rather simple story where not much happens, the pacing is very slow, it was hard to connect with the characters emotionally, and it was confusing at times for me, but the mix of science-fiction, thriller and film-noir genres, immersive setting, fantastic production design, amazing cinematography, otherworldly score and powerful themes about existence, empathy, identity, survival, perception and memory make up for that! This movie is deep, as it can be interpreted as an allegory of slavery, a Christian allegory or an existential movie questioning what it means to be human, just to name a few things. I think I prefer that last interpretation, as that was the most intriguing part of the movie for me, at least substance-wise. The style is what boosts this from 4 to 4.5 stars for me, though. I have never seen or heard something quite like it, as it is undeniably beautiful in its melancholic mood! Overall, it's a movie I really want to rewatch, and I can't wait to see the sequel in hopefully a few weeks.
