If Alfonso directed one film in every single franchise ever existed he would automatically have the best one and that’s without question. Cuarón is auteur and his vision exceeds anything you give him. I just love how it’s a massive upgrade in quality from the first two. Mature, bleak and plays with time in an atmospheric sinister way. Whether or not the franchise has bested this one, Azkaban will always be remembered as "objectively" the best one
