Slow and cruel, yet undeniably absorbing. A once-in-a-blue-moon experiment that manages to be far less shocking for its depiction of Monroe’s life than it is for Netflix’s wildly unexpected move to produce an arthouse film with such narrative ambiguity surrounding its subject, especially with the global reach that they have. Lots of strange decisions, lots of sad and stunning results.
