King Solomon's Mines 1985
Interesting setting but absolutely god-awful writing from the first scene, which begins in media res with an interrogation in a antique shop where the scene ends with a man getting killed by a spike trap. Doesn’t get better from there.

Galaxy Quest 1999
Great parody but interestingly it didn’t kill Star Trek the same way Austin Powers killed goofy James Bond.
Interesting example of stuck culture - felt like you couldn’t make the same type of movie today about a tv show from 2004 but 1982 to 1999 seemed like a big jump.

Glass Onion 2022
This is the ultimate fridge logic movie especially considering the flashback in the middle of the movie robs the first half of its narrative tension. That being said the too online overly self-absorbed satire delivers a few good laughs (Rian Johnson is basically what you get if the front page of Reddit directed a movie). Would be entertaining on an airplane but probably wouldn’t stand up to multiple viewings.
Also Daniel Craig’s Foghorn P Leghorn accent is ridiculous- I kept waiting in the second half to switch to his regular accent.

The World of Suzie Wong 1960
Nancy Kwan is simply outstanding as the sajiao-ing Suzie Wong, a perfect foil for Holden’s Lomax - she is frequently laugh out loud funny. Holden is miscast however, I think they should have picked someone who’s a bit younger and a bit more “artsy”.
Great scenes of Hong Kong and lifelike supporting are highlights but the ending felt quite abrupt.
