Papillon

Papillon ★★★★½

"Yours is the most terrible a human can commit. I accuse you of a wasted life". He proceeds to say he is guilty of such.

Branded as a tale of escape, an adventure almost, it's not that kind of story. I mean it is, but closer to a tale of the mind than a physical one. Don't get me wrong, there are some spectacular scenes of escape, very tense and amazing in themselves, but what I really found fascinating was the way we entered the mind of the characters. Steve McQueen as Henri Papillon, we feel the weight times has on him, we feel his mind crumbling and ripping itself apart as the film goes on. Dustin Hoffman has a great supporting role as well, but McQueen is the star and rightfully so.
