I mostly enjoyed this subdued investigative story. Upon further research, I discovered that this is based on a real case from where the director grew up and the real detective is playing the part of Torao. This adds an absorbing meta-layer to the filmmaking. I found most of the investigative scenes between Torao and Kayako to be incredibly well shot and compelling.
