Scream

Scream ★★★★

Even though I already knew the twists, this was still extremely entertaining in a wonderfully 90's way.

The film strikes a really good balance between slasher horror and dark meta comedy. The constant horror movie references can get a bit obnoxious, but I imagine that at the time it must've been pretty refreshing to see a horror movie acknowledge the tropes and clichés of the genre.

The opening scene is geniunely terrifying and by far the scariest part of the movie. The third act after the big twist is also great. Sidney is a great protagonist.

I love how human the killer is. He's the opposite of the unstoppable forces that are Michael Myers or Jason Voorhees. The victims are always able to land more than a couple of blows on him before being killed, which was really fun and refreshing.
