It was fine, I guess. I'm not gonna say I didn't enjoy it, but I'm also not gonna say it didn't annoy me.
Like 2014's Godzilla (a movie I really like), the characters are extremely boring. Unlike Godzilla though, the movie is not nearly well directed enough to make the monster stuff make up for it.
There's some very weird stylistic choices and the humor never landed. Aside from some brutal kills and a cool final fight, there really isn't much to it.
The monsters don't feel as gigantic as in Godzilla and John C. Reilly was the only one I cared about.
Still, the kills are pretty brutal and that is one cool final fight, so if you can turn your brain off and enjoy big monkey, this will be just fine.
I think Peter Jackson's King Kong is still my favorite.
