The Fly opens with a sense of gloom, showing a grim murder scene with a decapitated corpse, and never lets up till its hopeless ending. David Hedisons gradual descent from an sympathetic scientist to an unthinkable monster is played so well and is just deeply sad. The scene where Helene sees what's become of Andre is horrifying. Patricia Owens is the real star performer here, with a portrayal of a wife who has to go through…

Trash that simultaneously tributes Blaxpolitation, Italian gothic horror a la Bava and good ol' slasher movies in a fun, operatic and psychedelic horror fest with Snoop Dogg as a 70s-era gangster seeking vengeance on everyone who wronged him. Begs you not to take it completely serious. Plenty of glorious Gothic imagery, abounds of fun icky gore, and swarms of wriggly maggots is projectiled from a rabid devil dog over a full dance floor in one of the nastiest sequences. Pam Grier is in there too! This was awesome!

A beautiful, sad and thoughtful exploration of masculinity, ego, regret, and of jealousy so deep-rooted that it can destroy lives. Its almost entirely plotless, has hardly any dialogue and is slowly paced; everything is so magnificently understated and subdued to great, poetic effect. The performances are naturalistic and by its hypnotic visuals and rhythm (those training drills really have an almost musical feel to it), and its great use of music, it becomes a real treat with an ending so sad but so sublime.
