A man becomes destructively obsessed with killing a dangerous rat, which has taken residence in his recently renovated house.

This movie is basically about a large, smart rat threatening to undermine everything a worldly wall street climber (Peter Weller) has worked to create for in his well built house. Directed by George P. Cosmatos who made Rambo 2, Cobra and Tombstone after this, here has made a clever technically well made thriller that has…

The effects of a devastating nuclear holocaust on small-town residents of eastern Kansas.

The early 80’s was a world on the edge, Nuclear War was a real and terrifying threat, and so you had a sequence of films that were absolutely terrifying and each one amped up and got scarier and scarier. Only this year I have already seen Barefoot Gen and Teatament, both terrifying. 1984’s Threads is the scariest and most grimmest film…

When one brother gets a job from their wealthy aunt, the other becomes increasingly jealous.

Meantime is an early Mike Leigh TV movie which also appears early appearance from Tim Roth, Gary Oldman and Alfred Molina. It’s a very low key and uncomfortable glimpse into poverty ridden Thatcher era London and what happens to the working and underclass when there are no jobs or prospects. A life on the dole, and the affects it…

Angela Baker, a shy, traumatized young girl, is sent to summer camp with her cousin. Shortly after her arrival, anyone with sinister or less than honorable intentions toward her gets their comeuppance.

An above average slasher film that is notorious for its ending and I must admit that final scene would have given me nightmares had I watched it as a kid. It’s hard to talk to much about this film without spoiling it.…

After his mistress is savagely beaten up a Mafia leader goes after the killer with a bloody vengeance. Soon after the hunt begins, a gang war ensues.

The Don is Dead is a very entertaining thriller that was obviously influenced by The Godfather. The story, or one of many stories, centers on a brash climber, played by Rober Forster, who is really good here  along with two hired guns, The Fargo Brothers who are…

A reporter moves into the Amityville house in defiance of the supernatural events connected to it, and finds everyone around him besieged by the evil manifestations which are connected to a demonic presence in the basement.

Here we have another franchise from the 80’s that had the 3rd film be a 3D movie, following Friday the 13th and Jaws. The 3D craze in 1983 was terrible. I hated it then and I hated it…

The story of the legendary British outlaw portrayed with the characters as anthropomorphic animals.

Charming Disney version of the Robin Hood tale with animals in place of humans, of course, it is Disney after all. The voice work is great. The animation is modest but nice and the music is quite fun, the whistle tune is so memorable. I liked all of the songs, particularly the folksy country ones.
    I do think this Disney…

A successful young model finds trouble when her obsessive manager-turned-husband becomes dangerously jealous.

The story of Dorothy Stratten is a very tragic one and one that was shown before only with Jamie Lee Curtis in the role in the 1981 film Death of a Centrefold. Star 80 for me is a much better film. This was Bob Fosse’s last film as a director, he also wrote this too. Mariel Hemingway plays a much more…

A woman seeks revenge against the man who kidnapped her mother.

The Marsh King's Daughter is based on the novel of the same name by Karen Dionne. It tells the story of Helena Pelletier(Daisy Ridley) who goes after the man who kidnapped her mother, to safeguard her family's future.
This is an engaging, beautifully shot, story that keeps you on your toes and doesn't overstay it's welcome.
Story wise it avoids many of the clichés its genre usually indulges in, which was refreshing and kept me engaged throughout. Daisy Ridley and Ben Mendelssohn are both fantastic in their roles.

Typical Carry on with innuendo, bare flesh, and some great one liners. Released in the so-called declining years of the series, Carry On Girls isn't the best of the series but it's got Sid James and Barbara Windsor…

Rogue intelligence agents, right-wing politicians, greedy capitalists, and free-lance assassins plot and carry out the JFK

Almost exactly ten years after the assassination of President Kennedy, this film was released to theaters and quickly disappeared due to the controversy it started. This film is meant to show an alternate version of what really happened to Kennedy including there being three gunmen and Lee Harvey Oswald being set up. This film was made well before…
