A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master

A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master ★★★½

Look, guys, I don't want to make any bold statements here, but......this might be my favorite Elm St. movie? I mean, it's clearly not the best. The OG and New Nightmare are groundbreaking in certain respects, and I respect them for those accomplishments. But, in terms of pure entertainment value, I don't think I've gotten as much out of any film in this franchise as I have this one. From that banger of an opening song to the style to the most likable group of characters yet (sorry 3 - you just ain't as cool as you wanna be, baby) to some of the most batshit kills (roach motel FTW), this one is just operating on a whole other level. I still have to see 5 and 6, but.......come on, like they're going to top this.

Look, in terms of horror franchises, I definitely prefer Halloween, Friday the 13th, Chucky, Sleepaway Camp, Scream, Paranormal Activity, Romero's Dead series, Insidious, Ringu, The Ring, Ju-On, The Grudge, the Universal Monsters, Saw, Resident Evil, Phantasm, The Shining, and many others I'm forgetting. But in terms of my enjoyment of the Elm Street franchise, I'd definitely have to place this near the top.

Though no moment gives me quite as much enjoyment as Mark Patton's scream from Part 2.
