Luke Robertson’s review published on Letterboxd:
This is a film I have been so eager to watch for years. But the length of it is one of the reasons I kept putting it off. As soon as it started though I was encapsulated. Next thing I knew, it was the intermission, and again we were at the end.
This film is a true epic and will always stand the test of time. The battle scenes are great and it is clear to see the influence that this film has gone on to have. Kurosawa was a visionary director and has definitely left his mark on cinema with this one.
Most of the characters in this are so interesting but the star for me is Kikuchiyo. The character is absolutely fascinating and dominates almost every scene he is in. You want to know his story and why he is such a brute at times and the story does a great job of peeling back the layers of his story.
Seven Samurai will go down as one of my favourite films I have ever seen. I enjoyed every moment of it and would recommend it to everyone.
