First film watched at Berlinale 2017.
A queer love story set in the middle of a traditional initiation rite in which adolescent boys are circumcised and then spend about a week in the wilderness with other initiates and their 'caregivers' to learn the finer points of manhood. These finer points mainly seem to consist of being shepherded around the forest to collect firewood, presumably so the elders will have sufficient light and time in the evenings to wax poetic about…

A delicate and engrossing love story with brilliant performances from everyone involved, but particularly Timothée Chalamet. The scene with Elio and his father was one of the most moving feel-good moments of the year for me.
