Oh the sands of time.

The fresh and digitally monochromatic modernism that Cuarón brings to the past in this movie is breathtaking. The visuals are stunningly gorgeous yes, but what’s unique about this movie was how lost I got in each frame. The immersive backgrounds left me darting my eyes one way or the other more than I ever have. The absence of any real score in this movie is also what makes it so raw and engaging. The story moves with the characters in a ballet like fashion. I loved how the different scenes with the car port marked where the family was at emotionally each time. Everything about this makes me want to visit Mexico and just live in the culture. I am now much more excited to take advanced Spanish in college.
