  Adam Sandler’s Rocky V (1990) meets Air Up There (1995). Comes off more as an After School Special for the NBA than a serious drama. Extra half-star for featuring Pat’s instead of Gino’s.

  A tepid prison exploitation revenge film from the writer/director of Bone Tomahawk. I really dug his take on the supernatural western (a genre he has written extensively in) but 99 is not the follow up I had hoped for.

  Director Zahler has taken what could have been a brutal, fun movie and stretched it into a 2-hour indie drama without the engaging characters and dialogue from Tomahawk. The final scene has a horrendous special effect and I can't tell if the poor quality was intentional or not.

  A supernatural BURP! draws people out to the ocean where they are... possessed? Probed? Replaced? It’s not quite clear and takes forever to get to any semblance of suspense. As many have said, should have been a short film as there’s not enough story to warrant its runtime. Lovecraft from filmmakers who’ve never read Lovecraft.
