Pearl 2022
“Please, I’m a star!” 👍🏼
Best Scene: Monologue
Pearl is a heartbreaking, and haunting character study. Mia Goth needs to get the recognition she deserves, because this is undoubtedly one of the best performances of 2022. I have very mixed feelings about the character of Pearl, and I’m certain that was director/writer Ti West and Mia Goth’s goals. Pearl is genuinely sympathetic for a lot of the film. Her father is completely incapacitated, she lives a boring farm life, and…

Divergent 2014
Shailene Woodley plays a decent leading performance and Miles Teller is alright for the few instances we see him, and I guess the lighting and color grading are pretty decent ... but this might be the most plain, generic, watered-down sci-fi movie I've ever seen. The acting ranges from fine to awful, the dialogue is so cringeworthy, the the story structure is about as basic and by-the-numbers as it can possibly be, the music choices are just atrocious, there's hardly…

Brawl in Cell Block 99 2017
56/100
Meh it’s ok. I like Zahlers ideas and I think he has talent and that shows in something like Bone Tomahawk but this one didn’t do much for me. A very simple plot dragged into a long 2hr 10 minute film. You can tell this movie has a cheaper budget but I think they did the best for what they had. Some of the senseless violence is entertaining but besides that this movie was just ok to me.

The Menu 2022
New fear unlocked.
A great large audience theatre movie. Unfortunately I didn’t get a large audience, but I still really liked it! The shocking twists were all written very well and the resolution was even quite surprising even knowing the outcome. Ralph Fiennes and Anya Taylor Joy stole the show, they are both so good in this film. The story is inventive, different and extremely creative. I loved how stylistic this was as well, I’m a sucker for style in… -
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery 2022
6/10
Despite some charming and entertaining sequences of dialogue, this film doesn’t live up to the heights of its predecessor in the slightest.
Excluding Janelle Monae (who is very good in this film), the performances are merely okay; there’s nothing special that brings any of these characters to life, and the quirky appeal to the effervescent Benoit Blanc is missing here.
The film sports a decent screenplay as far as structure goes, but the ‘grand reveal’ is incredibly anti-climactic and… -
Avatar: The Way of Water 2022
Completely worth the long wait and a huge improvement over the first film. Deserves to be seen on the biggest screen you can find, the visual effects are fucking incredible.

Sick 2022
Sick is an unoriginal horror movie that benefits from its intense and squirm-inducing fight scenes. It is like someone mashed together their favorite horror films without adding anything new, leaving it undercooked and underwhelming. The movie outright does not develop any of the characters. It is entertaining, sure, but annoyingly cliched and predictable. Every beat was as expected, and it did not have to be. The first scenes were excellent at utilizing jumpscares, but everything afterward was repetitive. If you…
