Decent, if silly, anthology film. It ain't no TRICK 'R TREAT, however.

    Fools' Parade

Adapted from a Davis Grubb novel, it may not have the resonance of THE NIGHT OF THE HUNTER, but it is a solid adaptation with James Stewart as a recently released prisoner (along with Strother Martin and a young Kurt Russell) who's pursued by a prison guard/Sunday school teacher/hitman (George Kennedy) to prevent a check being cashed. This makes more sense when you know that the time is The Great Depression and the setting is a small Southern town.

Directed with a sure hand by Andrew V. McLaughlin, who'd soon be directing John Wayne's later films. Worth searching out.
