While not a good film per se, I realized what makes this so entertaining is the entire cast is 100% committed to delivering some of the corniest dialogue in the history of cinema.

Nasty, brutish little horror film that makes the most out of its low budget by having its characters just act... normal? At least given the circumstances, nobody really treats it like the zombie movie it is, despite the Zombie Rules being laid out fairly clearly. I like that though, makes it less of a paint-by-numbers horror flick.

There's a whole lot of subtext regarding plastic surgery and sexism that Cronenberg would fully investigate in later films, luckily he doesn't dig…

This movie has no business being as good as it is, with Josh Hartnett's mumbly delivery and the rest of the scenery being chewed to a pulp by Morgan Freeman and Ben Kingsley. But it all works, and not in a postmodern "oh look at how clever this thriller is" way. It's just a decent movie where Lucy Liu seems to actually be having fun instead of crammed into the stoic types she was always getting cast as.

A fun exercise is to judge a movie based on the target demographic & their method of watching it. For Cyborg, that's 11 year olds who record it off TV and wear out the VHS tape rewatching an incoherent cyberpunk action movie where all the bad guys are named after music instrument manufacturers and the main guy somehow survives getting crucified. On those terms, this film knocks it out of the park.

Kind of like those high pitched tones only tweens…
