Lord Chiquita’s review published on Letterboxd:
Zack’s Snyder’s cut of Justice League is definitely the better cut of the film. I don’t think there was any doubt about that, but while a great many issues I had with the Joss Whedon cut of the film were fixed, some of my original issues have become more apparent on this viewing.
My issues lie primarily in the first act of the film which seems to run overly long even in the Whedon version. My main issue is quite apparent as having to establish an ensemble cast where every character is like a main character is not an easy task. The Avenger’s films kinda cheat this by having each character set up in their own film, but that’s hardly the point. The point is that I don’t care enough to see Barry Allen applying for a job and stopping a fatal car accident or seeing a small village sing a song to Aquaman as much as I like seeing a character like Victor Stone be set up and go through a great character arc in the film (mind you Cyborg’s arc in the film is easily my favorite part of the film and whoever decided to remove it from Justice League, whether that be WB or Joss Whedon needs to be terminated.)
I really don’t like typing about films as much as I once did so since I got most my cons out of the way imma just gush about what I liked in the film and it’s bullet points.
• Steppenwolf is an actual character and the updated CG work on him looks great in comparison even if it looks like PS3 era graphics.
• Man of Steel theme is used beautifully. Same as Wonder Woman’s theme. Honestly just hearing the piano notes of Hans Zimmer’s MoS theme brings tears to my eyes every time.
• Batman looks dope as hell. I can’t quite pinpoint what about his design looks cool, but it’s totally awesome, also seeing a more hopeful Batman born of Superman’s sacrifice is sort of righteous.
• The Flash isn’t as annoying in this cut. I don’t know what exactly was added or removed, but he didn’t get on my nerves quite like he did in the Josstice League.
I might be able to go on for hours about this film so I won’t. Please enjoy your day.
