Horse Girl

Horse Girl ★★★

This one has been floating around in my queue for a long time and glad I finally got around to checking it out.

I can’t begin to tell you how uncomfortably awkward Sarah made me feel. The social outcast who struggles to exist in society. Her daily routine is sad and the way people seem to ignore her is even worse. I give all credit to Alison Brie, who also co-wrote the film, for her performance.

Halfway through the film, it starts to take such a weird, strange turn and you can kind of see that it starts to move into a portrayal of mental illness and even someone with a traumatic brain injury. Those individual who live with that daily struggle hard and have constant feelings of paranoia and anxiety. To be in that headspace is troubling for me and I thought AB did a good job with that aspect.

The rest of the film is up to interpretation and that’s where it kind of falls flat. But I was pretty impressed with the stable of supporting actors that show up from Molly Shannon to Tony Huss and one of my favorites, David Paymer.
