The Fabelmans

The Fabelmans ★★★★★

Obviously as someone who wants to make movies, this feels like a whole dream come true. The performances really carry this all the way to the end. If these actors didn’t work as well as they did on screen, this wouldn’t hit as much as it did.

Gabriel LaBelle and Michelle Williams are the absolute standouts, which on Williams part, is not surprising in the slightest. Paul Dano and Seth Rogan are so random, but work so damn well in this story.

As a biopic, it’s probably the most clear and well edited biopic i’ve ever seen in my life. It doesn’t jump through specific moments of one life, but many small moments that felt big. The small inspirations one picks up on has more impact than the rewards of the inspirations themselves.

Spielberg feels back in his rhythm with this one, telling a story with character over spectacle. I feel like it’s been a while since I’ve connected with one of his films, but this is definitely one that is deserving of him winning Best Director, atleast one can hope.
