favorite documentaries

Sometimes I watch docs about a subject I'm really interested in but the film just doesn't do it for me and I get bored, and sometimes a doc I don't expect will interest me totally does. I realized i often have a hard time rating documentaries as I don't really know what makes a good documentary good. i don't know much about documentary filmmaking (and of course there are many styles) and would like to learn so I thought I'd start by making a list of my favorite ones!
