    it really bothers me when movies about historical events are historically inaccurate. Now a lot of people probably think this really was a turning point that led to the civil war. And it didn't have much to do with Van Buren's reelection either. did it even lead to the closing of the Portuguese slave fortress? I'll have to do more research to find out.

    i would only finish this if I had it on in the background while doing something else. this was so underwhelming. all those great visuals...for what? in fact since the narration is so cheezy (and I don't think there's anything Brad Pitt could have done differently to make it any less so) that if I did have it on in the background, i would have the sound off because anything would be better to listen to. so it's more like a modern screen saver.

    For some reason I wasn't sure how much I liked this film the first time I watched it back in 2014. Not sure what I was thinking then. I certainly got a lot more out of it the second time around. There are so many details to notice.  I also didn't have much context, as somehow at the time I hadn't seen any of Bong Joon-Ho's other films. Now that more people know about him, and the fact that "late capitalist hellscape" became a common phrase used in 2020, I sure hope that more people will appreciate this incredible and wildly entertaining film.
