PIG is the showcase of the Nicolas Cage that I know, love and am constantly yearning to see more of. He expertly plays Rob, a former chef who is now a recluse living out in the woods with his truffle pig. I think a lot of people are expecting a super violent revenge story but this is different; something so much deeper and more meaningful. It's a film about hopes and dreams. Love and loss. About the fake life that surrounds someone when they're not doing what they truly want to do. And if it's not real, does it really matter?
This is a really quiet and reserved film. And Cage plays his role equally restrained for full impact. Co-writer/director Michael Sarnoski is constantly contradicting what the viewer is expecting to see as the film progresses. This is absolutely wonderful work for Sarnoski's feature debut.
