What it lacks in story it overshadows by design. Possibly the apex in stylisation accompanied by Vangelis's brilliant electronic arrangement.

Much like a great piece of music Blade Runner works best as an atmospheric immersion. Don't look for things to happen, just let the whole thing wash over you.

All the CGI, in all the world, has never come remotely close to being as authentically jaw dropping as the practical effects of this gorgeous film.
