    Mare of Easttown

"I always imagined I'd be a cop. It's the life around me I didn't expect to fall apart so spectacularly."

Mare of Easttown is what I like to call gut-punchingly good television. Each of the seven episodes offers some scene that hits hard on a level most TV or movies are not even trying for or capable of attaining. The level of commitment by all the actors is beyond commendable. Kate Winslet has hit another major career peak here. She…

I never had any Friends later on like the ones I had on TV.

    Jesus, does anyone?

    Carry On Henry

King Henry VIII: "Has she been chaste?" 👑

Thomas Cromwell: "All over Normandy." 😉

The Carry On gang present their version of Henry VIII. I caution anyone planning to watch this looking for historical accuracy, you won't find any. It's the usual smutty shenanigans with the usual gang . Sid James outshines everyone as Henry, who basically trades women as often as he changes his underpants...which I hope was often, but you never know about those days.

    The costumes and…

    What's a Carry On?

A documentary about the Carry On series, released on the 40th anniversary in 1998.

Plenty of affectionate remembrances from those involved, including Barbara Windsor and Joan Sims, who were both still alive at the time.

Not an overload of information, just a pleasant look back.

    The Lighthouse

"Yer fond of me lobster, ain't ye?" 🦐

This movie is a descent into madness, in more ways than one. It looks like Ingmar Bergman's Mutiny on the Bounty but has elements of many other cinematic works of art. It is, however, its own beast, and what a wild and crazy one it is too.

Beautifully filmed in foreboding black and white in some old fashioned boxy aspect ratio, you're suddenly transported right there to the same lighthouse rock. The…

    Uncut Gems

The film opens with an inside look at Adam Sandler's colon, and then it blasts off into a stressful series of events that leave you white-knucklin' it for the entirety of the movie.

Adam Sandler is in the zone here, the stench of Sandy Wexler is quickly fading. If Jonah Hill can be Oscar nominated twice for an Oscar, then the academy can surely throw a nom at Sandler for this, he's outstanding! The whole cast is, actually. This movie…
