    Sanctuary

    ★★★½

Sanctuary is basically an effed up, mind screw of a romance. Of course it is sexy (have you seen the two leads?!). And it lives up to the idea of a dark comedy with the absolute insanity unfolding throughout. But it's also quite poignant with great character arcs that resonate.

Now the ending lightens that poignancy a bit. And I was not a fan of these ethereal, artsy color design transitions. But the BIGGEST crime?! A movie about Christopher Abbott with a dominatrix that has no nudity! We couldn't even get a single Abbott BOOTY shot?!

    You Hurt My Feelings

    ★★★★

A poignant, relatable comedy that felt authentic. Julia Louis Dreyfus is in her element, giving a fantastic performance. The squabbles are endearing, the characters are well-fleshed out and the conversations felt real.

Some of the side-plots felt a bit under-developed. Particularly with the mom and the son. They were there, they had significance (obviously) to the story but they didn't have enough. Also, didn't love the stereotypical portrayal near the end.

But overall, a delightfully downer comedy.

  • Nope

    Nope

    ★★★½

Nope is the third film from writer/director Jordan Peele and sees him return to the familiar horror genre, this time with a sci-fi twist!

While I would likely say this is Peele's weakest effort to date, it is still an impecibally crafted blockbuster that builds tension and atmosphere to perfection. If only that third act didn't undo so much stellar groundwork with a "meh" finale.
