    Pure ideology. The basic point is that marriage depends on things to work properly (the house, money and even children are treated like goodies which sustain the happy couple). Although Cary Grant (I love him, but not the brightest performance here) says kids cannot be compared to things, that's exactly what this pic does.
    Nevertheless, George Steven is skilfull and as a movie, it works.

    What is the goal here? To make the average white male to identify himself with the consumerism entitled D-fens? Maybe. But at the same time, Joel Schumacher's directing does not appeal to subjective angles or try to present his protagonist as a hero. Au contraire, after meeting with the nazi shop owner, D-fens is treated as an equal - you and I are the same, says the nazi. And he is not wrong, both characters understand themselves through violence, xenophobia…
