    When I was five years old my aunt taped The Sound of Music off the telly onto VHS and, like any good telly taper, paused the recording for the ads. 

    The problem was she frequently forgot to re-record when the ads finished and thus, for the next twenty years, pivotal parts of the story were a mystery to me. 

    Most importantly my copy was missing the part where Frau Schmidt tells Maria they are replacing the curtains in her bedroom.…
