Well, the special effects are topnotch. But other than that, Kong: Skull Island is nothing to write home about. I kept nodding off during the first 20 minutes, which surprised me because I don't usually fall asleep during movies.
The story isn't bad, with the cold war used as a backdrop and helping to inform some characters' mindset and motivations. But the movie felt very rushed and I didn't really care for any of the characters. The climax scene where Kong fights the giant "skull crawler" was very underwhelming.
I'm seeing Beauty and the Beast in IMAX tomorrow. And I'm quite excited for that. Let's hope it's not a letdown as some critics have made it out to be.
