Breaking news: the MCU multiverse has been found dead in a ditch!!!
Yet ANOTHER film I’ve had to drive 4 hours to see because my local theatre doesn’t get shit! But it’s okay, this time I made a trip out of it :) Not to mention the movie was WELL worth traveling out to see.
Everything Everywhere All at Once starts off strong right out the gate. It’s fast-paced, clever, and charming. Unfortunately, it lost a few points for me near the middle of the film because it loses a bit of steam. I felt like there was too much exposition and repetitiveness. But that final act brings it in HARD and finishes the film spectacularly. The last act is so emotionally devastating yet fulfilling, I can’t remember the last time I’ve watched something so moving and powerful in a theatre. Many sniffles were heard in the audience.
I also want to talk about this film’s EDITING. Like WOW, this thing is gorgeous. Not only is its style fully realized and glorious, but the editing is SO clean. Probably one of the best-edited films I’ve ever seen.
Giving 4 stars to something like this feels like an injustice, especially with the themes it tackles, but I’m sticking with it for now. Although I could very well see myself giving it a higher rating in the future!
