Kurosawa’s review published on Letterboxd:
-- IN HONOUR OF SEVEN SAMURAI BEING NAMED GREATEST NON-ENGLISH SPEAKING FILM BY BBC CULTURE POLL --
I don't feel I can adequately write my feelings about my all-time favourite film 'Seven Samurai' in such a short amount of time and space as I have here.
For me it's a film that I could only properly 'review' out loud, face-to-face, with passion and reflection, with friendly debate and critical comparison, allowing for obscure intellectual tangents and poignant personal anecdotes, Kikuchiyo impressions etc etc.
Typing such a review would obliterate my wrists with the carpal tunnel syndrome...
So, since 'Seven Samurai' recently topped BBC's culture poll of 100 Greatest Non-English Films - well, duh - I submit instead "Why Is Seven Samurai So Good" by Anne Billson. Her article is as good a start on what I'd want to convey in this forum as anything I could otherwise hope to type.
