Went into this expecting it to be at least competent and it turned out to be amazing. Fincher’s directing is razor sharp, as usual, with some great editing and his trademark muted color palette. The movie’s incredibly engaging, mostly due to excellent performances from Gyllenhaal, Ruffalo, and Downey Jr., and it handles its theme of obsession incredibly well. Although it isn’t my favorite David Fincher movie (Nothing will beat The Social Network, in my opinion), this is probably one of the best neo-noir movies out there.
If the runtime was as long as the actual Zodiac case, I wouldn’t mind at all.
