The Social Network

The Social Network ★★★★★

My Mom had never seen The Social Network and it’s one of my favourite movies so of course we had to watch it.

I love that David Fincher took on a project like this yet figured out a way to inject his classic Fincher style. This is one of his best looking movies (although it’s not my favourite, too many incredible Fincher films) thanks to cinematographer Jack Cronenweth (who also shot Fight Club and Gone Girl).

I don’t think I need to spend too much time talking about Sorkin’s script because we all know it’s impeccable. I thought on my first watch it wouldn’t work flashing back and forward yet Sorkin keeps it tight and is definitely helped by editors Angus Wall and Kirk Baxter.

The acting is off the charts here, making every line of Sorkins pop on the screen. Jesse Eisenberg gives the best performance of his career and I hate that he’s kind’ve just being cast as Mark Zuckerberg now. Justin Timberlake (my mom’s favourite pop singer) was surpassingly great and my mom was shocked a movie made her dislike JT. Armie Hammer does a great job playing 2 different roles. Let’s be real though, Andrew👏 Garfield👏 he absolutely steals every scene he’s in. The iconic “fuck you flip-flops” scene just shows how underrated he is as an actor.

This movie could’ve easily become “The FaceBook movie” much like how The Shape of Water became “The fish fucking movie”, and I’m so glad it didn’t. This truly is one of the best films of the century thus far. Just give me Mank already!
