Losing Ground

Losing Ground ★★★★

Certainly unique and historically important. The only movie that comes to mind that's comparable in style is the Love Witch which came out two decades later and is different in the sense that it uses impressive craftmanship to pretend to look like an amateurish film from the 80s.

This is just too authentically amateurish for me to see it as a masterpiece. Craftmanship matters to me (maybe too much). It has a ton of character, and is way ahead of its time in the frankness of its discussion on race though and I could easily imagine Collins having become an incredible auteur had she not died early. Certainly deserving of entering the canon.
